His straightforward, yet highly effective methodology, received fantastic feedback from window and conservatory installers across the UK who went on to achieve improved sales and profits as a result of the steps he laid out.
Keen to hear more, Paul was requested to share his methods face-to-face with sales teams and home improvement business leaders around the UK. His no-nonsense and approachable presentation style was so well-received that eventually his passion became a full-time consultancy business.
Along the way, as Paul interacted more with home-improvement business owners, he noticed that some were selling more, but they were also spending more. This meant that they were experiencing cash flow difficulties, so he started sharing the secrets of his very profitable clients with the not-so-profitable clients.
Once Paul had been training for a while, he realised that there needed to be two main areas of focus for clients to be profitable. These continue to form the two main strands of his training today:
Paul’s systematic approach to increasing sales and profits works for all home improvement companies, particularly window and conservatory specialists. Clients range in size, from one man bands looking to take off some, or all, of the many hats they wear, through to established regional businesses who feel that they’ve hit a ceiling and want to push through to the next level.
Regardless of your size, if you feel that your current approach is unlikely to take you to the next stage of growth, then we should talk! Even a one-day consultancy with Paul offers great value. Typically, however, Paul works side by side with clients in the long term. “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, and our fees are incorporated into our client’s product prices to be cost-neutral. In other words the homeowner-customers pay an unnoticeable extra few percent in their prices to fund mentoring so as not to be a drain on our clients cash flow. Read some of our case studies here.
Paul regularly presents as the guest speaker when manufacturers host sales training days for their window installers. Topics can include anything from, “How to Increase Your Sales Conversion”, through to “How to Safely Increase Your Profits and/Cash Flow”. Following his insights, installers become better equipped to increase their sales and improve cash flow – which obviously generates a positive influence on manufacturers’ willingness to invest in their trade accounts.
Paul can also work on a long-term basis with manufacturers who are devising and implementing strategies to offer better sales support to their installers. Paul’s effective point-of-sale material and field sales ‘fact find and design’ forms are a key part of this service.
Manufacturers are also welcome to use Paul as their brand ambassador / advice line / field trainer, which typically attracts new accounts from those who want to grow their businesses.
Window Installer Sales Lab is a family business, comprised of Paul Clifton, his wife Laura, daughter Naomi, son Phillip and of course, our many valued clients.
